Google Calendar is introducing a new feature allowing users to manually create and modify birthday events directly within the app. This update adds a “Birthday” option alongside existing event types, enabling users to enter names, birth dates, and customize notifications and colors.
Each birthday event will include a cover graphic and will be added to the “Birthdays” calendar.
For developers using the Google Calendar API, it’s important to note that birthday events have limited properties and are identified by the event type “birthday.” Newly created events will be accessible through the API, with support for filtering and listing.
This feature will roll out over the coming weeks to Android users, Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and personal Google account holders. A web version is also on the way, with an iOS release planned for the future.
