Will the Utility Stores Corporation Be Closed? Government Drops Major Hint

Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, confirmed on Monday that the government is not considering shutting down the Utility Stores Corporation (USC). This statement comes in response to recent reports suggesting the government might be looking into closing the USC as part of a broader strategy to reduce its involvement in business activities.

The Ministry of Industries and Production released a statement indicating that Hussain made these remarks during a meeting in Islamabad with a delegation from the USC. The Secretary of Industries and Production and the Managing Director of the USC were also present at the meeting.

Hussain explained that the government is exploring various restructuring options for the Utility Stores Corporation to improve transparency and efficiency. He also mentioned that a new subsidy mechanism is under development to better support the corporation’s operations.

The minister assured that no decisions regarding the closure of the USC will be made unilaterally. Instead, any potential actions will be taken in consultation with employees and other stakeholders to ensure that their interests are safeguarded.
