The Sindh government has unveiled a groundbreaking housing initiative, titled ‘Sasti Basti,’ aimed at providing affordable homes to underserved communities across the province. This new scheme was introduced during a high-level meeting of the Human Settlement Authority, chaired by Najmi Alam, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh.
The ‘Sasti Basti’ project reflects the commitment of the provincial government to enhance housing accessibility for economically disadvantaged groups. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of party chairman Bilawal Bhutto, who has emphasized the importance of expanding housing opportunities for the underprivileged.
Key features of the ‘Sasti Basti’ scheme include the development of low-cost housing units and the provision of essential amenities to ensure a decent standard of living for beneficiaries. The initiative aims to address the housing deficit in the province and improve living conditions in underserved areas.
In a related move, the Sindh government has also approved the establishment of demolition squads to address the issue of encroachments in slum areas. These squads will work to remove illegal structures and restore order, contributing to the creation of a more organized and equitable living environment for residents.
This new initiative in Sindh comes as Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz introduces a similar housing program, ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar,’ aimed at offering affordable housing solutions to low-income individuals. The program, which has already begun, is designed to alleviate housing challenges for the economically disadvantaged in Punjab.
The ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ program has been well-received by social welfare organizations, including the Akhuwat Foundation, which has praised the Chief Minister’s efforts to provide relief and promote homeownership among marginalized communities. The program offers financial support and housing options tailored to the needs of low-income families.
The Punjab government plans to expand the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ program annually, increasing the number of beneficiaries and extending its reach to more regions within the province. This expansion aims to help more individuals achieve their dream of owning a home and improve living standards for low-income families.
Both initiatives—‘Sasti Basti’ in Sindh and ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ in Punjab—represent significant strides towards addressing the housing crisis in Pakistan. They reflect a growing recognition of the need for affordable housing solutions and a commitment to improving the quality of life for the nation’s most vulnerable populations.
