Sarfaraz Ahmed, a two-time ICC event champion, has been announced as the mentor for the Dolphins team, which will be based at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in Karachi. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made this announcement on Wednesday.
The Dolphins will compete in the Champions One-Day Cup, scheduled to take place in Faisalabad from September 12 to 29. They are one of the five teams participating in the tournament.
The Dolphins’ match schedule includes:
- September 14: Against Saqlain Mushtaq’s Panthers
- September 17: Against Misbah-ul-Haq’s Wolves
- September 19: Against Shoaib Malik’s Stallions
- September 22: Against Waqar Younis’ Lions
The Champions One-Day Cup will feature 150 of the country’s top cricketers. This 50-over tournament will follow a single-league format. All matches, except for the game on September 16 between the Lions and Panthers, which will start at 9:30 AM, will begin at 3:00 PM. The tournament will conclude with three playoff matches over four days, culminating in the final on September 29.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, who led Pakistan to victories in the ICC U19 World Cup 2006 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, and was part of the team that won the ACC Asia Cup 2012, expressed his enthusiasm for the new role. As a former captain of Pakistan’s T20I team and a record-holder for most dismissals in an ODI, Sarfaraz brings a wealth of experience to his role as both mentor and player.
Sarfaraz stated, “I am excited about mentoring the Dolphins in what is expected to be a competitive and challenging tournament. This role offers a new experience for me, and I look forward to learning and enhancing my skills as a cricket professional.”
He added, “In addition to mentoring, I will also be participating as a player, which adds another layer of excitement and challenge. My goal is to support the captain, players, and coaching staff to improve their skills and performance. I am committed to making a significant contribution to the Dolphins, drawing from my experiences in previous memorable matches.”
Sarfaraz also expressed confidence that the Champions One-Day Cup will meet the expectations of the PCB and cricket fans, emphasizing the importance of their support in ensuring the tournament’s success.
