Punjab’s First Satellite-Linked System Takes Aim at Environmental Violations

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has unveiled Punjab’s inaugural satellite-linked environmental monitoring system, integrating cutting-edge technology and drones. The system is now fully operational, leading to raids on factories that are violating environmental regulations and emitting toxic smoke.

Using drone technology, the Department of Environmental Protection has already shut down two factories. These drones are instrumental in pinpointing facilities that exceed emission limits and fail to comply with environmental standards. In collaboration with the district administration, the department executed raids on two factories situated on Sheikhupura Road in Gujranwala, where they dismantled kilns and sealed the facilities.

Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb praised the efforts of the Environmental Protection Department and the district administration. She noted that, following the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the preemptive anti-smog campaign will be ramped up before the onset of the smog season. She emphasized the critical need to tackle the root causes of smog, which is responsible for approximately 250,000 deaths annually.

Maryam Aurangzeb urged all Punjab residents to contribute to the fight against the hazardous smog and safeguard lives throughout the province.
