In response to the recent decrease in fuel prices, the Lahore district administration announced a 5 percent reduction in fares for public and goods transport on Thursday.
The decision came after the federal government cut the prices of petroleum products by Rs 10. According to the official notification, this fare adjustment aims to reflect the lowered costs of fuel.
Additionally, the administration has launched an enforcement campaign against transport operators who either fail to display fare lists or charge passengers excessively. To date, a total fine of Rs 350,000 has been levied on transporters for such violations.
Previously, the Punjab government had also reduced transport fares throughout the province by Rs 30 to Rs 70 following the drop in fuel prices.
Under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the fare reduction took effect immediately. Uzma Bukhari, a spokesperson for the Punjab government, stated that the district administration is actively overseeing fare schedules at all bus terminals.
Last week, the federal government approved a reduction in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) for the upcoming fortnight, decreasing them by Rs 10 and Rs 13.06, respectively. The new price for petrol is Rs 249.10 per litre, while HSD is now priced at Rs 245.01.
