PM Launches Nationwide Anti-Polio Campaign

On Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif initiated a nationwide anti-polio drive, marking a significant step towards a polio-free Pakistan. The campaign, which covers 115 districts across the country, aims to vaccinate approximately 30 million children under the age of five. This ambitious effort is designed to combat the crippling effects of poliovirus in Pakistan.

The seven-day campaign, which begins on Monday (today), will involve 286,000 polio workers who will go door-to-door to ensure every child under five receives the necessary polio vaccination.

During the launch ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude towards international partners and organizations that have supported Pakistan’s efforts in the fight against polio. He emphasized the need for continued collaboration between the federal and provincial governments, along with international organizations, to fully eradicate polio from Pakistan.

“We are optimistic that with the dedication of our polio workers and the support of international partners, we will see the complete elimination of polio in the near future,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister urged parents to ensure that their children receive the polio drops, highlighting the critical role parents play in safeguarding their children’s futures. He emphasized the importance of cooperating with polio teams to prevent lifelong disabilities caused by the virus.

“Polio eradication is a shared responsibility,” the Prime Minister remarked. “Parents must take it upon themselves to ensure their children’s protection from this preventable disease.”

The Prime Minister also commended the relentless efforts of polio workers, federal and provincial officials, and security personnel, who have worked tirelessly to protect children from poliovirus. Their dedication in challenging circumstances has been pivotal in making the polio campaigns successful.

In a symbolic gesture to mark the beginning of the campaign, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally administered polio drops to children at the ceremony, officially inaugurating the drive.
