Pakistan’s First Domestic Electric Car to Arrive This December

Pakistan is preparing to launch its first locally produced four-wheeled electric vehicle (EV) in December 2024. This announcement was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif focused on promoting EV usage in the country.

According to a government statement, since 2022, Pakistan has issued 49 licenses for the local production of two- and three-wheeled electric vehicles. Currently, 25 factories have commenced manufacturing these types of EVs.

The statement further revealed that the first license for producing four-wheeled electric vehicles was granted in September 2024. The inaugural electric car from this license is expected to enter the market by December this year.

The EV sector in Pakistan is rapidly expanding and holds considerable potential for transforming the nation’s automotive industry.

In related developments, Dewan Farooque Motors Limited (DFML) has announced the start of EV production at its assembly plant following approval from the Engineering Development Board (EDB). Additionally, Chinese EV manufacturer BYD recently entered the Pakistani market, marking the country as one of its newest international ventures.
