Motorway Police Launches Crackdown on Expired Goods Following Tragic Incident

Following the suspected food poisoning death of four members of a single family near Bhira on the motorway, authorities have taken action. Five days after the tragedy, the motorway police have initiated a campaign targeting shops and hotels in service areas selling expired goods.

According to a report by Dawn, a spokesperson for the motorway police announced on Wednesday that a crackdown against the sale of expired products and overcharging at shops and hotels is currently underway.

A joint operation was conducted by Assistant Commissioners, motorway police, and the Food Authority along Motorway M-1, M-2, the Swat Expressway, and the Hazara Expressway. During this campaign, the team inspected food items and the motorway police disposed of expired products.

The spokesperson further revealed that fines totaling over 350,000 rupees were imposed, and several shops were sealed.

It is worth noting that on August 23, during a routine patrol, motorway police found a vehicle by the roadside on the motorway with five family members in a semi-conscious state. The family was traveling from Lahore to Islamabad.

Despite efforts by medical staff at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Bhira, the victims could not be saved and were suspected to have died from food poisoning. An autopsy report is pending, and authorities are still investigating the cause of death.
