Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has inaugurated an ambitious initiative aimed at providing free heart surgeries and treatment for children with heart conditions. Named “Maryam Ki Masihaai,” the program was officially launched today at the Children’s Hospital in Lahore.
The “Chief Minister Children Heart Surgery Programme” is designed to offer comprehensive medical care to over 5,000 children annually. This initiative is a significant step toward addressing the growing need for specialized heart care among young patients across the province. During the launch event, CM Maryam Nawaz also distributed ‘Child Surgery Cards’ to facilitate the process for beneficiaries.
The program aims to ensure that no child in need of heart surgery is turned away due to a lack of facilities. If public hospitals are unable to accommodate surgeries due to space constraints, the program will arrange for these procedures to be conducted at selected private hospitals. This dual approach is intended to maximize the availability of critical care and reduce waiting times for surgeries.
To enhance the management and oversight of the program, an online dashboard will be introduced. This digital tool will track the progress of the Children’s Heart Surgery Program, providing real-time updates and ensuring transparency in the allocation of resources and scheduling of surgeries.
Expressing her satisfaction with the launch, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the program is not limited to Punjab alone. Children from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other provinces will also benefit from this initiative, demonstrating a commitment to providing equitable healthcare across Pakistan.
In the first phase of the program, heart surgery services will be offered at six key hospitals. These include:
- Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in Lahore
- Children’s Hospital Lahore
- Cardiology Institutes in Faisalabad, Multan, and Rawalpindi
These facilities have been selected for their expertise and capacity to handle complex pediatric heart surgeries.
Looking ahead, CM Maryam Nawaz announced that the program will expand in the second phase to include hospitals in additional regions. The new locations will be:
- Wazirabad
- Dera Ghazi Khan
- Bahawalpur
- Sargodha
This expansion aims to bring heart surgery services closer to more families, reducing travel burdens and making critical care more accessible.
The launch of “Maryam Ki Masihaai” represents a significant leap forward in addressing the healthcare needs of children with heart conditions. By integrating public and private healthcare resources and implementing advanced monitoring systems, the program promises to improve outcomes and provide timely medical intervention for thousands of young patients.
As the program rolls out, it is expected to set a new benchmark for healthcare services in Pakistan, showcasing a model of cooperation between public institutions and private entities to deliver essential medical care. The initiative highlights a growing recognition of the need for specialized pediatric care and a commitment to ensuring that no child is left without the necessary treatment.
Overall, CM Maryam Nawaz’s initiative is poised to make a substantial impact on pediatric heart care in Pakistan, offering hope and healing to children and their families across the country.
