Karachi Police Constable Suspended for TikTok Video Revealing Team’s Location

A police constable in Karachi has been suspended after posting a TikTok video while on duty, which inadvertently disclosed her team’s location. The suspension was announced on Wednesday by the Sindh Police.

Police Constable Maria Gill, stationed at the Gizri Police Station in District South, Karachi, was suspended immediately due to “improper and irresponsible behavior towards the performance of official duties at her place of deployment,” as detailed in a notification from the Sindh Police.

In the video, which was reviewed by Dawn.com, Gill is heard saying, “Hello guys, Assalamoalikum. Today, I am posted for duty at Mai Kolachi Road outside Bahria College.” She then pointed out the heavy police presence, including four other officers seated at a bus stop, and even filmed them waving at the camera. Gill also showcased her motorcycle and invited anyone to meet her at her location.

The suspension notification, issued by Syed Asad Raza, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) South Zone, included directives for Gill to undergo a counseling session with the Station House Officer of the Women South Zone. Additionally, she will be transferred to the Police Headquarters South Zone to attend daily roll calls/parades. Her pay and allowances will continue as per the rules.

DIG South Raza commented to Dawn.com that a report on Gill’s conduct has been requested from the senior superintendent of police. “The police are a professional organization, and such irresponsible actions will not be tolerated,” he stated.
