The Shangla police has apprehended a man posing as a Pakistan Army major along with four of his accomplices. They also seized weapons, ammunition, a fake identity card, and multiple SIM cards from their possession.
During a press briefing, Alpuri sub-divisional police officer Shah Hussain revealed these details to the media, presenting the suspect and his accomplices.
According to Mr. Hussain, the incident occurred when a police patrol intercepted a speeding pick-up truck at the Chatri turn after it failed to stop at the Shangla Top checkpoint, despite police signals. The vehicle was coming from Swat.
SDPO Hussain mentioned that the driver introduced himself as Major Imran Ali from the Pakistan Army. However, upon further questioning, the man claimed to be a source for an intelligence agency but could not provide any documentation to support his claim, raising further suspicion.
Along with arresting his four accomplices, the police also confiscated fake IDs, SIM cards, and weapons.
A thorough search of the vehicle revealed a counterfeit identity card, six photographs of the man in an army uniform, nine SIM cards, 14 bank cheques, and three mobile phones. Additionally, a rifle, a roll of wire, three magazines, 30 cartridges, and a 9mm pistol were found.
It was also disclosed that the suspect had been involved in a similar case in Buner a few years ago. Imran Ali, the impostor, is from the Sargay area of Puran, while his accomplices were identified as Arifullah, Haroon Khan, and Rehman Ali, all residents of Swat.
An FIR was registered against the suspects, and further investigations are underway.
