The Pakistan Finance Ministry has clarified regulations regarding pension payments for retired government servants living abroad and announced a significant increase in the minimum salary for civil and contract employees.
The ministry clarified that only government employees appointed before January 2, 1959, are eligible to receive their pensions in foreign currency. Due to economic constraints, this provision does not extend to employees appointed after this date.
Salary Increase
The minimum monthly salary for all civil and contract employees of the federal government has been increased from Rs32,000 to Rs37,000 per month, effective July 1, 2024. Employees currently earning less than Rs37,000 will receive a special allowance to bridge the gap.
Budgetary Implications
The salary increase will be financed through existing budgets and will not require additional allocations.
