Islamabad, September 13, 2024 — The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has revealed plans to raise the quarterly payments under the Benazir Kafalat programme from Rs10,500 to Rs13,500, starting in January 2025.
BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid made the announcement on Thursday, highlighting that the programme will extend its benefits to 10 million families by the end of the year. Currently, the programme provides Rs10,500 per quarter to eligible women.
The decision to increase the amount is attributed to the expanded budget for the BISP, with Senator Khalid expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his support.
In addition to the payment increase, BISP is launching the Benazir Skill Training Program. This initiative will offer training to women and their families, aiming to enhance their employability with skills aligned to both local and international standards.
Senator Khalid also discussed other BISP initiatives, including:
- Benazir Taleemi Wazaif: This scheme provides educational scholarships to children from needy families, requiring 70% school attendance. It offers higher financial support for girls compared to boys.
- Benazir Nashonuma: Designed to combat stunting, this programme offers financial aid and nutritious food to pregnant and lactating mothers, as well as children up to two years old.
The announcement was made during Senator Khalid’s visit to the BISP zonal office in Gilgit, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through enhanced financial assistance and new training opportunities.
