Apple is reportedly negotiating a substantial investment in OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT. This move aligns with Apple’s ongoing efforts to enhance its AI offerings and improve user experience across its devices.
Apple plans to integrate ChatGPT into its ecosystem, including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, by the end of the year. This will enable users to receive ChatGPT-generated responses directly within Siri and through Apple’s system-wide Writing Tools feature.
ChatGPT will be accessible for free to iPhone, iPad, and Mac users. Apple has assured that OpenAI will not store ChatGPT requests made from its devices and will obscure user IP addresses.
The integration of Apple Intelligence features, including ChatGPT, began rolling out to developers in the iOS 18.1 beta. However, it is not yet available to the general public. To use these features, devices must meet certain requirements: an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, or a Mac or iPad equipped with an M1 chip or newer. Initially, these features will support U.S. English.
Microsoft is also planning to further invest in OpenAI, highlighting the growing interest in AI advancements among major technology players.
Apple’s investment in OpenAI and its integration of ChatGPT demonstrate the company’s commitment to AI and its potential to transform user experiences. As AI continues to evolve, we can expect to see more innovative applications and features emerging from tech giants.
