A wave of concern has swept through Punjab as an impostor, fraudulently posing as Sohail Zafar Chatha, the current Director General (DG) of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), has been exposed, reported Gizmo Pakistan. According to well-placed sources, this individual has been actively deceiving and extorting money from people under investigation.
The imposter, who has been posing as Mr. Chatha, has reportedly obtained confidential leads from unknown sources and contacted individuals under inquiry. Under the guise of the DG, the fraudster has been threatening legal action and demanding substantial sums of money to avoid consequences. Sources indicate that this scheme has proven highly lucrative for the impostor, who has amassed a significant amount of money through these fraudulent activities.
Sohail Zafar Chatha, the legitimate DG of Anti-Corruption Punjab, is a distinguished officer with a notable background in the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP). Known for his exemplary work combating crime, particularly as the District Police Officer (DPO) in the Katcha area, Mr. Chatha has earned a reputation for his commitment to justice.
In response to the alarming situation, Mr. Chatha took to social media to warn the public. He issued a stern message stating:
Caveat Emptor: An imposter claiming to be me, impersonates as DG Anti-Corruption, Punjab, calls officers and private persons, threatens legal action and demands money for settling without action. My only number is 03007*124. My office staff and I normally don’t call anyone. Please ignore all such calls and help me spread the word, too. I’d also request that I may be intimated about these fake calls. Below is the screenshot shared by a victim of the crime.”
In addition to the social media alert, Mr. Chatha has taken further steps to combat the fraud by placing banners condemning the impostor’s actions outside the ACE headquarters and at various prominent locations.
Current inquiries are actively underway to track down and apprehend the fraudster. Mr. Chatha’s dedication to resolving this issue is evident, and his reputation as one of the sharpest and most effective officers in the PSP provides hope for a swift resolution. The public and victims of this scam are encouraged to report any suspicious activity and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
