The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has announced plans to develop a new Margalla Viewpoint and an information center at the former site of Monal and a neighboring restaurant within the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP).
According to IWMB spokesperson Omar Bilal, the site, following the demolition of the restaurants, will be utilized for conservation and educational purposes. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the reopening of Monal.
Bilal also mentioned that a survey will be conducted to identify the location for the new Margalla Viewpoint. Additionally, the site will feature an information center, providing university students with an opportunity to conduct research on wildlife and environmental topics.
An IWMB official highlighted that this initiative aims to protect the park’s wildlife and natural habitat, which have been negatively impacted by human activities. The goal is to restore the Margalla Hills to their pristine, natural state, ensuring the safety of local wildlife, according to the spokesperson.
Demolition of the well-known Monal Restaurant, La Montana, and Gloria Jeans, all located within MHNP, has already commenced under the orders of the Supreme Court. On August 21, the Supreme Court mandated the removal of these establishments for operating within the protected area of the Margalla Hills National Park. The court further directed the IWMB to oversee the demolition process.
