Punjab’s free Wi-Fi initiative has significantly expanded, now providing service at over 230 locations across various cities.
This development aligns with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision for a more interconnected province. The Safe City Project has played a crucial role in this expansion, establishing free Wi-Fi access points in several urban areas. Lahore leads with 200 points, followed by Sheikhupura with 15, Kasur with 10, and Nankana Sahib with 5.
According to a spokesperson for the initiative, recent statistics reveal impressive usage data for the last quarter. Approximately 7.7 million users accessed around 111 terabytes of data, with the service achieving a remarkable 98.7 percent availability rate.
The introduction of free internet access is positively impacting various sectors, including education, business, and social interaction. Officials view this initiative as a vital step toward transforming Punjab into a digital province.
“The free Wi-Fi service is making daily life easier for citizens,” the spokesperson highlighted, underscoring the initiative’s practical benefits for residents throughout the region.
This expansion marks a significant milestone in the development of Punjab’s digital infrastructure, potentially serving as a model for similar initiatives across other regions of Pakistan.
