Transgender advocates are calling on the Sindh government to establish dedicated wards in government hospitals and create shelter homes specifically for elderly transgender individuals.
At a press conference on Wednesday, transgender leader Alisha highlighted a recent tragedy: the death of a community member named Noori at a civil hospital, which she attributed to inadequate medical facilities.
Alisha criticized the lack of access to basic medical services, not just for transgender people, but for the general public as well. She emphasized that despite existing laws, transgender women continue to face a lack of special provisions in institutional settings.
She noted that while the police department has established a transgender desk, other departments have yet to provide similar facilities.
Alisha called on both the local and Sindh governments to implement dedicated services for the transgender community and establish separate wards in government hospitals to address their specific needs.
